My Story
Hi there, my name is Stefanie Ison and I am a 20 year old student at the Australian Catholic University in North Sydney, Australia. I'm currently a Pre-Service teacher studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree, however I believe my passion for teaching and education started a lot earlier in life watching my mother go to school everyday as a teacher herself.
In my 3 years of this degree I have had many amazing teaching experiences both in government and catholic primary schools ranging from Kindergarten to Year 6, as well as in Australia and overseas. In 2015, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into a five week practicum program in the Solomon Islands where I was teaching a class of 42 year 4's where English is a additional language or dialect. It was an amazing experience and I learnt so much about the importance of education, the value of a life-long learner, as well as how the motivation and disposition of both the student and the teacher can alter the success of learning. Then in July 2016, I co-led a group of 13 pre service teachers and speech pathologists to Northern Thailand where we spent two weeks teaching English to Thai children through the Challenges Aborad Volunteering Organisation. Even though it was my second experience of teaching overseas it was completely different and an incredible adventure! This is only the start of my teaching journey and I can't wait to continue learning, teaching and exploring.
